Welcome New Members: back
Welcome to the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS), your Union and labor organization which represents you and other BRS members through the collective bargaining process in negotiation of wage increases, health and welfare benefits including dental and vision benefit plans, work rules commonly referred to as Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and other issues that pertain to the Signalman's craft, it members, their spouses and dependents.
The railroad is to provide you with a copy of the CBA at the time of your employment. If you have not yet received a copy you should request one from your Manager. If your Manager fails to provide you one, then contact your Local Chairman.
An important aspect of being a good signalman is the skills and knowledge that is required. The Union Pacific Railroad has an exceptional training program and training centers to help assistant signalmen become highly qualified signalmen. This training is the result of the collective bargaining process between the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and the railroads after the BRS stressed the importance and need for high quality signal training. The Union Pacific Railroad also has a Signalman Training Web Site, see "Signalmen Training Web Site" below for more information.
Many issues that affect the Signalman's craft are the results of legislative action taken by your elected officials (state and national congressional representatives and senators). Join and support the Signalmen's Political League by enrolling in monthly payroll deductible contributions. SPL contributions are used to support legislation favorable to Signalmen and the BRS.
All members are encouraged to support your Local Lodge and attend Local meetings. Contact your Local Lodge Officers or General Committee Officers for any questions or concerns you may have. Take time to browse this web site for additional information.
